FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- An investigation at a Fort Wayne apartment complex ended with a woman dead and an officer injured Wednesday afternoon, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD).
Multiple police vehicles were spotted at Parkview Studios apartments, which is located off Harris Road between Goshen Road and Coliseum Boulevard. A Public Safety Alert was sent out Wednesday afternoon asking people to avoid the area.
According to the FWPD, city officers responded to assist other officers with the Indiana State Parole regarding a barricaded person armed with a knife. The parole officers also said the person, only identified as an adult woman, has a felony parole violation warrant.
Several attempts to contact the woman were unsuccessful, and shots were fired during the incident, which resulted in the woman being shot. Medics transported the woman to a hospital where she later died, according to the FWPD.
A WANE 15 crew saw an officer being taken from one of the apartments with what appeared to be some sort of injury, which the FWPD later described as "minor." However, police did not specify how the injury happened.
Drones were also seen flying above the apartments during the situation.
The Allen County Coroner's Office will identify the woman at a later date, and the FWPD will release more information "as it becomes available."
The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave, which is the FWPD's standard protocol.
