EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - A 30-year-old man has been charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed and killed his 27-year-old girlfriend on Sunday, Jan. 5, at a home near East El Paso County near Horizon City, according to court documents obtained by KTSM. Man arrested, extradited to El Paso after deadly stabbing According to court documents, Jorge Albert Chavez, 30, was charged with murder in the deadly stabbing of Dafne Michelle Davila, 27. At approximately 3:29 a.m. on Jan. 5, El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to 609 Zinc Place about an assault in progress. An EPCSO deputy observed a pickup truck in the driveway of the home with its lights on and a man in the driver's seat, who was later identified as Chavez, according to court documents. According to court documents, the deputy parked its marked patrol vehicle behind the pickup truck, approached Chavez, and began giving commands to turn off the vehicle. Chavez then put the truck in reverse and accelerated toward the deputy's marked unit. He then struck the unit and continued to accelerate moving the patrol unit out of the way, according to court documents. According to court documents, Chavez struck another vehicle parked at a neighboring home and then fled from the scene. The deputy rushed inside the home, announced his presence, and found Davila lying on the kitchen floor with a large amount of blood and a knife in her throat. She was gasping for air and appeared to be conscious, according to court documents. According to court documents, Davila was taken to Del Sol Medical Center and after arrival at the hospital, she was pronounced dead. El Paso County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit Detectives obtained an audio recording of the emergency call. In the call, you could hear Davila asking for help, saying her boyfriend, who she identified as 30-year-old Jorge Chavez, had assaulted her with his fists, according to court documents. According to court documents, Davila provided the address and told dispatchers she was hiding in the last room of the home. She then pleaded for help and said that "her boyfriend was starting to break down the door in the room." Shortly after, she began to scream, and dispatchers could hear Chavez's voice and loud thuds that "sound as though an assault is taking place," according to court documents. After that, there was no further communication between Davila and the dispatcher. According to court documents, detectives interviewed Chavez's friend who reported receiving a phone call from Chavez confessing to "having just killed his wife and expressed intentions to take his own life." EPCSO called this a case of family or domestic violence, according to a press release sent by the Sheriff's Office. Additionally, the EPCSO Fugitive Apprehension Unit extradited Chavez from the Reeves County Sheriff’s Office to El Paso where he was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility for murder with a $1 million bond. Reeves County is located about 200 miles east of El Paso.
