BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Shreveport woman accused of attempting to kidnap a baby from Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge appeared in court on Wednesday.
Dinesty Selmon, 22, walked out of the 19th Judicial District Courthouse, avoiding our camera and our questions. Selmon was arrested and charged last March for allegedly trying to kidnap a baby from Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge.
According to BRPD, Selmon somehow fraudulently obtained a parent/caregiver badge giving her access to certain floors and rooms. Investigators said she made several visits to the hospital where she gained access to a room of a nine-month-old child in the pediatric intensive care unit.
Eventually, hospital staff and Selmon’s boyfriend alerted law enforcement, and she was arrested on one count of attempted kidnapping and seven counts of unauthorized entry of a place of business.
On Wednesday in court, Judge Fred Crifasi granted a request by Selmon's court-appointed attorney that she undergo a medical evaluation. The Defense also asked for all surveillance video from the hospital.
Selmon remains out on bond and is due back in court on March 19.
