FORECAST: Cold and breezy Wednesday
Jan 08, 2025
Happy Wednesday, DMV! It's a cold start to our day so make sure to bundle up before heading out the door. Temperatures across the area, this afternoon will struggle to get out of the 20s and 30s, and at times winds will gust between 20-25 mph. The combination of the cold temperatures and breezy conditions gives you a wind chill value (feels like temperatures) in the teens to 20s through much of the day. Upslope snow showers will continue for the higher elevations. Winter Weather Advisories remain in place for Garrett, and Allegheny, MD counties until Thursday afternoon. Whereas the rest of the area will stay dry under partly cloudy skies.
Some of the coldest air of the season will arrive tonight as overnight lows dip into the teens and single digits in the higher elevations. Wind chill values tonight will tumble into the single digits and teens. A cold weather advisory is in place for the Blue Ridge Mountains but could be expanded later on today.
Another cold morning is expected as we kick start your Thursday, with morning lows expected to be in the single digits to teens across the area. Mostly sunny skies and blustery conditions will be the trend through much of the day tomorrow as highs will struggle to get out of the 20s and a few locations possibly hitting the 30s. Winds will howl as we head through Thursday gusting between 30-35 mph.
Our next chance to see snowfall will be heading into Friday night into early Saturday morning. A storm system in the deep south will move into the area Friday night into early Saturday providing us with the next chance of seeing light snow across the area. We will continue to iron out the details as we head into the next couple of days.
