Five Things: January 8, 2025

A past art-making op at the Hirshhorn
1. The new year brings some new program schedules at our local museums. This post with details for regularly occurring programs for kids has been updated to reflect that. Whether you’re looking for a weekday activity with little ones or something for the whole family on the weekend, there’s almost always a session to join. Even better, most of them are free!
2. On Friday, January 31, from 6-9 pm, the Spy Museum is hosting Spy Fest, a family focused festival featuring tons of activities, challenges, and fun for kids 8 and up and their families. Even better, the event is FREE, thanks to sponsorship by Booz Allen, but registration is required for attendees. It’s very likely to fill up, so sign up soon! (Note: We attended this annual event when the kids were younger, and it was so much fun!)
3. Are you looking for summer camp options for your theater kid? This Sunday, January 12, the DC Area Performing Arts Camp Fair will be held at Arena Stage from 11am to 3pm. More than a dozen camps will be providing information, family-friendly activities, and sample classes that offer sneak peeks into the creativity and fun kids can expect in Summer 2025. It’s free to attend, but registration is recommend. RSVP here.
4. There’s a chance for more snow this weekend, and while it likely won’t be enough to hit the sledding hills, it doesn’t hurt to be prepared for winter fun. Hence, some gear suggestions: Sled (that might even arrive in time if we do get dumped on this weekend), waterproof gloves (a must for snowball fights), snow boots, and snow bibs (the brand we always bought and really liked for our kids).
