TOPEKA (KSNT) - Scott Schwab announced he will make a run for Kansas Governor in 2026. On Wednesday, Jan. 8, the Great Bend native with two terms as Kansas Secretary of State made the announcement. “We need to return to the values and principles that have always fueled us, and gave me the strength to lead in Topeka,” Schwab said. “I have a proven conservative record. And a servant’s heart. It’s important for Kansas to take the right path." “A Christian, a father, and a believer in the American dream. I believe that to do something great, you need to throw off the chains holding you back. For Kansas, that’s big government, and that is why I am running for Governor.” Could Kansans see another natural gas price spike? On Schwab's website he listed three pillars for his run: jobs and tax cuts, security and values. "As Secretary of State, I worked hard to reduce regulations and make it easier to open a business here in Kansas," Schwab wrote on his website. "As Governor, I will fight to cut taxes and costs for Kansas families, cut regulations that burden our businesses, and make sure rural Kansas is no longer left behind by bringing more jobs to all corners our state." In 2022 Schwab defeated Democrat Jeanna Repass and Libertarian Cullene Lang in the Kansas General Election to continue in his role as the Secretary of State. For more local news, click here.
