WATERBURY, CT. (WWLP) - A former city official from Waterbury, Connecticut has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his involvement in a 2023 hit-and-run that left a teenager with severe injuries. Man accused of killing Springfield mother, baby in Hartford due in court John Egan, 59, was the former chair of Waterbury's Zoning Commission, according to NBC Connecticut. Egan hit a teenager on a scooter on his way home from work. The arrest warrant states that Egan had consumed 16 alcoholic drinks the day he hit the teenager. The teenager suffered a brain bleed and multiple skull fractures and is now unable to walk. During the sentencing, Egan says he takes full responsibility for his actions.
