Harm to community
Jan 08, 2025
I want to take a moment to “thank” Vail Resorts for causing long-term harm to our Park City community. With eight months to resolve their labor dispute with the union representing the professional ski patrollers, their intransigence over what seems like $2 per hour has caused real lasting harm to the reputation and thus Park City business community. Their actions have led to the absolute worst on-mountain experience imaginable during the busiest time of the year. And the number of visitors who have said, and surely told others they will not come back, is huge. They spent thousands to come here for their grand vacations and Vail delivered in a word — crap! But surely we must be sympathetic with Vail Resorts. After all, if they have to give ski patrollers an additional $2 per hour, think of their pain. I will do some generous math here, with my numbers just being indicative: 150 patrollers per day; 10-hour days. That would be an additional $3,000 per day. In a five-month season, that would be $450,000 plus some tax and benefits. Let’ss call it $500,000. Heck, call in more. It is small potatoes. How many $900 passes do they need to sell? How many more $350 ski lessons? How many more $25 hamburgers and $15 beers? I think you get the drift. Now think of the losses to the community that the reputation this astoundingly bad visitor experience is going to cause. Oh, and soon Vail Resorts will have had no choice but to get the deal done. The bone-headed executives and lawyers at Vail Resorts who advanced and accelerated this problem into the disaster we had this holiday season should all be fired!Jim ArnoldJeremy RanchThe post Harm to community appeared first on Park Record.
