StormTracker 8: Another chilly day; watching Friday into Saturday
Jan 08, 2025
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - The cold and quiet conditions are still with us the next few days before winter storm #2 moves in by the end of the week.
Today will be another chilly day with highs in the middle 30s under mostly sunny skies. A light northwesterly breeze will make it feel like the middle to upper 20s when you factor in the wind chill.
Mostly clear skies continue overnight and lows will drop into the teens once again.
The sunny skies and dry conditions continue tomorrow with highs still near the middle 30s.
Now onto the harder part of the forecast Friday night into Saturday. Clouds will thicken up across the area as the day progresses Friday and light snow flurries look to move in during the evening hours. Most areas south of I-64 look to switch over to a wintry mix early Saturday morning and areas north of I-64 look to stay with snow.
Over the next few model updates, we will really be able to better forecast what areas will see what precipitation and how much we can expect. I will say it looks like a fast-moving system which means this would limit accumulations compared to our last winter storm a few days ago.
Since the storm is a fast mover it does look like it will be out of the area by midday Saturday with clearing skies from west to east.
For the second half of the weekend we look dry and chilly with highs near the middle 30s.
It finally looks like next week will warm up ever so slightly with highs back in the 40s with a mixture of sun and clouds.
