Jan 08, 2025
SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) —Morning temperatures are the coldest so far this winter in Sioux Falls. As of 6:30am, the temperature officially dropped to -1, the first sub zero low. Fortunately, milder weather is on the way.
The planner for Sioux Falls shows a nice climb in the temperatures to the mid and upper 20s this afternoon.
Along with the milder weather, a chance of snow will return to the region starting tonight. In fact, a few inches of snow may accumulate across the northern Black Hills where a Winter Weather Advisory has been posted through noon tomorrow.
Futurecast shows the milder temperatures across the board today. You will also notice the snow chances moving into western SD tonight. We expect a wintry mix to develop as well with the warmer temperatures moving into KELOLAND. Highs will be in the 30s tomorrow as winds increase in the morning across western SD.
Our snow forecast keeps most of the numbers below 1". There could be a few higher exceptions, but not major amounts are forecast. Keep in mind some of the snow will mix with freezing rain or rain at times as well.
Here's a closer look at the wind forecast. Notice the changes in Rapid City late tonight, with gusts over 40mph tomorrow morning from the NW. We expect a general increase in the wind tomorrow across much of KELOLAND. The next cycle of wind will enter KELOLAND on Saturday.
We still expect another disturbance to move into KELOLAND this weekend. This will likely bring a shot of snow and wind again, with the strongest winds more likely in western SD. Temperatures may fall some early next week, but any chance of big cold will wait several more days.
Here are the details of the forecast.
