An apartment building at 45th and Holdrege suffered damage, after a vehicle crashed into it on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025, which left one person dead. (Courtesy of Lincoln Fire and Rescue)LINCOLN–(KFOR Jan. 8)–One person is dead, after a vehicle crashed into an apartment building not far from UNL’s East Campus. This happened shortly after 9pm Tuesday at 45th and Holdrege. Lincoln Police Lt. Jason Goodwin tells KFOR News preliminary reports show the vehicle was speeding westbound on Holdrege Street. It hit the north curb, lost control, struck a retaining wall, rolled, then hit a fire hydrant and hit an apartment complex building, ejecting the driver, a 41-year-old Lincoln man, who died at the scene. The name of the man is not being released at this time pending notifications to relatives. Damage to the retaining wall and fire hydrant are around $2,500.  Eight people in the apartment building were displaced. The investigation is ongoing.
