Residents report mailbox damage throughout winter weather

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – With countless snow plows on the roads throughout the commonwealth, some neighbors in Lexington are reporting damage to their mailboxes. Fortunately, there are ways to be reimbursed for these damages.
As snow plows move from main roads to neighborhood streets, residents are noticing an increase in mailbox damage.
“It’s very disappointing that we have such a busy road and then just to have the snow plows come through and just to do damage to our property is very disappointing,” said Lastenia Fraley, a resident along Hays Boulevard in Lexington.
City officials report that crews are working diligently around the clock to clear ice and snow off the roads. However, some high-traffic residential streets, like Hays Boulevard, are left with tilted or missing mailboxes.
“We certainly appreciate all the hard work that people are doing. It’s so important for our workers to be out here and taking care of the roads and doing what needs to be done. I just think that there needs to be some more thought into the planning for neighborhoods on busy roads,” added Fraley.
For those experiencing mailbox damage possibly caused by snow plows, the city of Lexington offers a reimbursement process. Residents can file a claim with Lexington Streets and Roads.
The city encourages anyone with questions to contact LexCall at 311.
