(The Hill) -- Actor James Woods posted a video of a fire engulfing his neighbor’s home in the Pacific Palisades, an epicenter of one of three wildfires ravaging the Los Angeles area.
The Emmy-award-winning actor shared the video Tuesday on social platform X with the caption “Leaving.” In the video, Woods said he was getting ready to evacuate the area.
In a subsequent post online, he thanked the firefighters and other local authorities as they continue working to contain the wildfires in the region.
“We were blessed to have LA fire and police depts doing their jobs so well. We are safe and out. There are several elementary schools in our neighborhood and there was an enormous community effort to evacuate the children safely,” Woods wrote Tuesday. “Can not speak more highly of the LA fire and LAPD.”
The fire in the Pacific Palisades is one of four expanding in California. It has burned through nearly 3,000 acres with no containment
“Extreme fire behavior, including short and long-range spotting, continues to challenge firefighting efforts for the Palisades Fire,” the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire) said. “Winds gusts up to 60 MPH are expected to continue through Thursday, potentially aiding in further fire activity and suppression efforts.”
The second fire, the Eaton Fire, also began on Tuesday, sparking evacuation orders and forcing all schools within the Pasadena Unified School District to be closed Wednesday. The Hurst Fire, which began Tuesday night, is expanding with high winds and has burnt through a minimum of 500 acres, according to CalFire.
The Tyler Fire started Wednesday morning.
The causes of the fires are under investigation, according to CalFire. In response, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) declared a state of emergency while the White House directed federal resources to help out local officials.
President Biden, who was in California Tuesday to promote two new national monuments, was also forced to cancel his event due to the wildfires.
