NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) - The North Charleston Police Department arrested a suspect for trafficking fentanyl on New Year's Eve.
Richard Rapagna, 42, was charged with trafficking fentanyl and resisting arrest.
The police department said officers were conducting a traffic stop on Brandywine Road when Rapagna fled the scene.
Officers initially had difficulty locating Rapagna. However, a convenience store clerk later reported that a man fitting his description was boasting about having escaped from the police and was trying to find a ride to Dorchester Road.
Officers located the suspect in a parking lot. As Rapagna attempted to flee once more, the officers successfully took him into custody. Upon searching him, officers discovered a plastic bag in his pocket that contained a gray rock-like substance.
The substance tested positive for 56 grams of fentanyl.
A woman who identified herself as Rapagna's fiancee was also charged after she gave officers a false name. She was charged with giving false information to police.
Both individuals were taken to Al Canon Detention Center.
