Dominion Energy to hold vegetation management workshop in Charleston
Jan 08, 2025
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Dominion Energy will host a workshop in downtown Charleston on Thursday to showcase an upcoming tree trimming project.
Trimming is planned for roughly 30 mines of overhead distribution lines throughout the downtown area, primarily below the Crosstown between Lockwood Blvd. and King Street, and above the Crosstown between Hagood Avenue and Rutledge Avenue.
A workshop, held Thursday from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Charleston Marriott (70 Lockwood Blvd.), is designed to help residents understand the project. There will be oversized maps on display that show the work area.
The work is part of Dominion Energy’s five-year cycle to maintain the safety, resilience, and reliability of the electric system. The utility provider said trees that have grown too close to overhead powerlines are a fire hazard and can be a risk to employees and public safety.
Another concern is damage to the lines during severe weather.
Property owners will be notified by mail or email about two weeks before the work begins.
