NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — Cenex is launching its second annual Hometown Throwdown contest. Individuals or organizations can nominate their hometown festival by sharing what makes their celebration unique — this year, Cenex will give out a total of $150,000 to five qualifying festivals, and the grand prize winner will get $100,000. Last year, only three festivals were selected as finalists and one grand prize winner, so this year, they've decided to recognize two more festivals, as well as the grand prize winner. Registration opens for 2025 NDFB conference While the grand winner will take home $100,000, other finalists get to go home with a little cash as well. Runner-up brings home $20,000, third place will get $15,000, fourth place gets $10,000, and fifth place takes home $5,000. The entry period started on January 7 and runs until February 7. Entries can only happen online. Five finalists will be announced on May 1, then voting will be open from May 1-31. Winners will be announced on June 17. "The Cenex brand is proud to give back to the communities we call home, and there's no better way to celebrate than by embracing the pride and joy people feel for their local festivals," explained Senior Director of Energy Marketing Erin Wroge in a statement. "Hometown Throwdown is a way of honoring the spirit and traditions that make each community unique." In order to be eligible, festivals have to be run by a local chamber of commerce, municipality, downtown commission, community-oriented non-profit group, or another similar organization.
