BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The main weather story as of Wednesday morning remains on the severe and life-threatening wind event occurring mainly to the south and east of Kern County.
Strong winds persist, creating dangerous driving conditions for residents in our desert and mountain communities, with wind gusts reaching at least 50 mph.
High wind warnings have been extended until 10 a.m. today, accompanied by a red flag warning in effect until tomorrow due to the combination of high winds and low relative humidity.
Wind speeds are anticipated to diminish as we progress into the afternoon hours. Temperatures will be typical for this time of year, hovering in the low 60s across Kern County. A Freeze Watch has been issued for rural areas of Kern County on Thursday, including Buttonwillow, Shafter, Wasco, and Delano.
These areas have a 30 to 65 percent chance of experiencing temperatures below 32 degrees. A gradual warming trend is expected towards the end of the work week, with temperatures climbing into the upper 60s.
