HARTFORD, CT. (WWLP) - The suspect in a double homicide that took the lives of a mother and her baby from Springfield is scheduled to make his second appearance in court on Wednesday. Police investigate unattended death on Trafton Road in Springfield Back on November 19th, 20-year-old Jessiah Mercado and her 4-month-old baby Messiah Diaz were shot and killed by a suspect who police believe to be 23-year-old Lance Morales. Morales was extradited from Puerto Rico to Connecticut. Family members told police that the victim owed Morales $400 in car payments. Police believe that could be the reason for the shooting in Hartford. The warrant shows the victim told Morales that her baby was in the car, but he shot anyway. According to the Massachusetts State Department of Children and Families, the four-month-old was in foster care in Massachusetts at the time of the shooting. His bond is set at $5 million.
