LUMBERTON, N.C. (WBTW) — A 17-year-old boy who was wanted after a deadly altercation at a Lumberton store in December was arrested on Monday, police say.
Investigators say that Jaylan Gray West, 17, of Lumberton is being held without bond in the Robeson County Detention Center after being charged with first-degree murder in the death of Billy Ray Huggins, 44, of Lumberton. He was arrested in Pembroke and taken to a juvenile detention center.
The deadly hit-and-run happened just before 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 20 at Atkinson’s Cigarette Land on W. 5th Street in Lumberton after investigators say that Huggins and West were involved in an altercation in the parking lot. West then got into his burgundy Chevrolet pickup truck and allegedly intentionally hit Huggins before fleeing the scene.
