CROFTON, Md. (DC News Now) -- The frigid temperatures have many homeowners cranking up the heat which means folks could soon see some sky-high bills.
Some employees at an ACE Hardware store in Crofton offered tips to save when it came to the electric bill.
“I would advise to keep your thermostat around 68 or 72 degrees. Also, make sure their furnace filter has been changed for the winter,” Sean Hathaway, an ACE Hardware store employee, said.

Hathaway said they were slammed all day Tuesday as many customers came in to shop for items they hope will help cut down their electric bills.
“We have lots of people coming in to get window film and they are also buying the sealant tape and with the snow and ice and cold, most are coming in to get the window film and air filters for their furnace and heating systems," Hathaway said
Shopper Bill Marshall came in to pick up a few items in hopes of keeping the heat in his house and the cold out.
“I am here to pick up some weather stripping to seal my front door to keep that awful cold draft that is coming in," he said. "It is important to keep my house warm and to help reduce cost."
Ace Hardware plans to have extra staff on hand and plenty of merchandise to make sure customers get the help they need.
