Tips to prevent heat loss this winter
Jan 07, 2025
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - As we continue to see frigid temperatures this week, 22News is Working For You with ways you can prevent heating loss while warming your home.
22News spoke with experts at Rocky's Ace Hardware in Springfield who tell us that adequate insulation can help reduce loss of heat. You can also upgrade to energy-efficient insulating glass windows and doors to prevent drafts.
A less costly way is by weather striping or caulking around windows and doors to help keep the heat trapped in your home. Manager at Rocky's Ron Szafir told 22News, "Another one that is often unchecked is that you can insulate your outlets, your outlet covers, your light switch covers. There is a foam insulation where you just take the cover off, put the foam insulation on put the cover back on because again that is airspace in your walls where cold air can get in and pull the hot air out of your house."
The manager at Rocky's encourages people to seek professional help at their store if they have any questions or concerns about keeping their homes insulated.
