TUCUMCARI, N.M. (KRQE) – A local non-profit is revitalizing the historic Route 66 by repairing neon signs for businesses along the scenic highway and now one New Mexico city is showing off their work. The New Mexico Route 66 Association helped complete the restoration of 12 iconic neon signs in Tucumcari that were damaged by hail in 2023. Judge rules Hermits Peak Calf Canyon Fire victims must be compensated for non-economic damages They said those businesses are mom-and-pop shops that could not afford the repairs. The association covered 50% of the costs and it's all thanks to thousands of dollars donated by people from across the globe including as far away as Australia.
