MSP plans trial board for Trooper Michael Proctor, previous lead investigator of Read trial
Jan 07, 2025
DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — The Massachusetts State Police said it plans to discuss the next steps of its disciplinary process of Trooper Michael Proctor at a trial board on Jan. 15.
MSP said it has concluded it’s internal affairs investigation on Trooper Michael Proctor, and that he remains relieved of duty and suspended without pay.
Proctor was the lead investigator during Karen Read’s first trial, which went through five days of deliberations before a mistrial was declared.
On July 1, 2024, Proctor was formally transferred out of the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office State Police Detective’s Unit.
Proctor, who was questioned over inappropriate texts, had acknowledged to the jury that he called Read a series of names including “wack job” in texts to friends, family, and fellow troopers.
One week later, on July 8, he was suspended without pay.
MSP said at the conclusion of any of its internal affairs investigation, it could choose to pursue charges that would be judged by a State Police Trial Board, which “makes disciplinary recommendations to the Superintendent who determines the final outcome. “
The trail board will not be open to the public.
