Man opens overwing exit on moving plane at Logan Airport
Jan 07, 2025
BOSTON (WPRI) — A passenger aboard a JetBlue flight to Puerto Rico was arrested after he opened an emergency exit door while the plane was on the runway at Boston Logan International Airport Tuesday evening, according to the authorities.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that the man opened an overwing exit shortly after the plane had departed its terminal and was taxiing on the runway.
His exact motive for doing so remains unknown at this time, but Massachusetts State Police reported that he "wanted to deplane."
The door opening triggered the inflatable evacuation slide, the FAA added, bringing the plane to a standstill on the tarmac.
Other passengers restrained the man until troopers boarded the plane and took him into custody. Police said he is expected to face charges.
No one was injured and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
