More winter weather is expected to travel through Kentucky this week. The National Weather Service recommends staying indoors if at all possible. Those experiencing power outages and using generators to keep warm should make sure to keep them outside and away from any ventilation systems. Kentucky Electric Cooperatives spokesperson Joe Arnold says to stay away from alternative heat sources that can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. “This happens every year in our country, and we do whatever we can to warn people not to use alternative heat sources if they’re not intended to be used that way, such as using a stove or an oven to heat your home, or using a grill,” Arnold said. Arnold also recommends staying away from downed power lines, and to call 911 in case of any sightings. If you are traveling, keep a weather preparedness kit in your car. Meteorologist Alex Vorst says it’s important to be able to access information while traveling. “The biggest part is having a way to get information so you’re not caught unaware of anything or any big changes,” Vorst said. “It all just comes down to being prepared and having the information to make the most proper decision.” The National Weather Service branch in Louisville says a cold weather advisory could be issued tonight night, and more snow is expected on Friday. ** WEKU is working hard to be a leading source for public service, and fact-based journalism.
