ATHENS, Ga. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- #6 Kentucky drops to 12-3 after an 82-69 loss to Georgia on Tuesday in Athens. Kentucky went into the half down 47-34, shooting 30 percent from three-point range and 40 percent from the field. Center Amari Williams had three fouls after 20 minutes of play. After halftime, Kentucky cut the lead to five, down 55-50, with just over 12 minutes to go. But Georgia then sank four second chance free throws in a row to extend its lead, 59-50. From there, the Bulldogs stayed in control behind 12 second half points from Asa Newell, who was also 5/8 from the free throw line in the final 20 minutes. Lamont Butler, one of three Cats in double figure scoring, led the way for Kentucky scoring 20 points. He also had a team-high three assists. On the boards, Otega Oweh was the leading rebounder with seven. Kentucky will have to find a solution for giving opposing SEC teams chances at the charity stripe. Florida had over 30 free throws in the Cats’ conference opener and the Dawgs had 38 on Tuesday night, knocking down 29 of them. UK on the other hand went to the line 19 times and scored on 15 of those chances. Four Wildcats, including Williams, finished the game with four fouls.
