County of Maui invites residents to community meeting on rebuilding Lahaina

LAHAINA, Hawaii (KHON2) -- Maui County is encouraging residents to attend their Lahaina Community Meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 at the Lahaina Intermediate School cafeteria to discuss funding for recovery from the 2023 Maui wildfires.

Congress appropriated a $1.6 billion Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery fund to aid in the process.
Other topics include updates on debris clearing, sewer repairs and electricity restoration.

These community meetings will be held twice a month starting in January, with one in-person meeting and one online meeting to discuss rebuilding Lahaina. January's online meeting will be on Jan. 22, with further information being posted online.
Various support agencies will also be available for residents at the meetings, such as County of Maui's Office of Recovery, Department of Environmental Management, Hawaiian Electric and more.
Maui Mediation Services and disaster case managers will also be available in anticipation of the state's eviction moratorium's expiration on Feb. 4.
The meeting will also be livestreamed on the County of Maui's Facebook page and on Channel 53.
