GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) -- Residents of an apartment in Greensboro say they're having to rely on their oven for heat. It's something firefighters don't recommend you do, but a man says he needs it to stay warm in his apartment. The heat is set to 75 degrees inside David Cardwell's home, but it's not working. He's a long-time resident at New Garden Place Apartments along Mcpherson Street in Greensboro and has now resorted to desperate measures. "There's no air circulating. And if it wasn't for my oven, I'd freeze to death because it's really really cold out there," Cardwell said. Cardwell says it's been this way for months. It's so frustrating that in December, he joined his neighbors in a Stop the Grinch Rally where their landlord was represented by none other than the Grinch. Cardwell says he's received many empty promises. "'We're going to get it fixed. We're going to get it fixed.' When? When they come in here and find me dead, I guess they'll fix it," Cardwell said. Annette Roseboro is one of the fortunate residents who has had their heat turned back on. "The heat is back on, but it's not putting out like it should ... That's not right," Roseboro said. With winter weather in the forecast this weekend, Cardwell continues to rely on his oven for warmth. He hopes the problem is fixed sooner rather than later. "I don't know if it's going to catch on fire or if something is going to happen," Cardwell said. FOX8 reached out to the property manager to see how many people are still without heat and how long it could potentially take to repair the heating system. We have not heard back from them yet. They previously said they would fix all issues in a timely manner and if a tenant has an issue, to make a request to the maintenance team.
