GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) -- Law enforcement agencies across the Triad are continuing to offer support to Greensboro police with the funeral service to be held Thursday for Officer Michael Horan who was killed in the line of duty.
The High Point Police Department is one of the agencies lending a hand to the Greensboro Police Department that day. HPPD Assistant Police Chief Matt Truitt says many of their officers want to honor Horan when he is laid to rest.
Not only will many of them be in attendance at the funeral but several officers will be working to help with the service.
34 High Point officers will be blocking the road for the procession route for Horan. There will be officers of all ranks helping out. Many are coming in during their time off to help.
The service will take place at Westover Church on Muirs Chapel Road on Thursday at 2 p.m.
High Point police’s traffic officers have also been on call for Greensboro to help them as they plan the service and offer support to the family.
“The brother and sisterhood through that thin blue line that really binds us together and what we've chosen to do. It's a somber day, but it's a day that we can honor and memorialize Officer Horan and his ultimate sacrifice that he gave in the line of duty, but it also shows the family support,” Truitt said.
Truitt said the bond between law enforcement is strong, and they will help where they are needed.
"When you tear the badge and the gun and the uniform away, we're all family," Truitt said.
The HPPD’s honor guard will also be at the funeral service for Horan on Thursday.
The Burlington Police Department will help alongside the HPPD.
“We’ve got a number of employees who worked with him ... Greensboro is not far away. We have a number of people who live there. We have a number of employees who work there," BPD Police Chief Alan Balog said. “We will help with traffic direction and control. We’ll have folks who will attend the funeral to show support for the department and for Officer Horan’s family.”
