DENVER (KDVR) — The United States Postal Service is closing its offices on Thursday, Jan. 9, and no mail will be delivered to Colorado residents that day, the agency announced Tuesday.
The USPS is suspending its regular mail delivery, retail services and office activity on Thursday in recognition of the national day of observance to honor former President Jimmy Carter, whose state funeral will be held at the National Cathedral on Thursday.

Carter, who served as America's 39th president, died at age 100 on Dec. 29 at his home in Plains, Georgia.
The USPS plans to continue limited package delivery service on Thursday "to ensure the organization does not experience any negative impacts to its package delivery operations," but all USPS facilities will otherwise be closed in observance of Carter's death. Self-service kiosks will be available at select post offices.
According to the USPS, employees will be informed by local managers about the staffing levels required on Thursday, as well as prepare for the resumption of regular service on Friday, Jan. 10. Employees are granted leave for the day, but will not be paid for the day unless there's a union agreement already in place that would ensure that payment.
All USPS facilities are required to fly the U.S. flag at half-staff through sunset on Wednesday, Jan. 29, to honor Carter.
