Police: woman dies after being hit by van in northeast Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating after a deadly car wreck involving a pedestrian. It happened Monday, January 6th at approximately 6:45am. Police, firefighters and medic responded to the 4500 block of Reagan Drive after getting a call about a person who’d been hit by a cargo van. When they arrived on the scene, they found 48-year-old Petrina Ann Williams on the ground. She was rushed to the hospital, where she died later that morning.
A white 2018 Ford Transit was also at the scene, with front right and windshield damage. The driver of the van, 20-year-old Eliceo Zunun Aguilar, was also at the scene.
Crash detectives say an initial investigation shows the van was traveling west on Reagan Drive when Williams cross the road in front of the van. Investigators say it was dark, raining and that Williams was wearing dark clothing. They also say she crossed the road outside of a marked crosswalk.
Police say speed is not a contributing factor in this vehicle collision. The Ford’s airbags did not deploy during the crash. Police say Aguilar was not impaired during the crash. A toxicology report is pending for Williams.
