BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Kern County's first officer-involved-shooting of the year is an accidental discharge. According to BPD, an officer accidentally fired his weapon. No one was injured in the shooting and neighbors say the house where the shooting occurred has been abandoned for months. They have seen homeless people going in and out. "So, I think it was an initial gunshot is what we heard first, it was two officers that showed up, and there's been reports of homeless people staying here...my husband has actually seen them break in a few times," said Sarah Rios, who lives across the street. "There was just a gunshot and then we heard an officer yelling something about watch your hands. After that there was another 20 cop cars that showed up and they came out with all their guns running around." Inside the home located on North Stine Road and Ford Avenue, trash and clothes littered the ground, and the window was shattered right by the front door. Bakersfield police said no one was harmed in the shooting, and one man was taken into custody. Palisades Fire in Los Angeles scorches 1,262 acres, destroys homes BPD Sergeant Eric Celedon says it's unclear what happened. "At this time it is unclear specifically what led to that officer firing that one round, however an administrative investigation into this incident has been initiated," Celedon said. The weapon the officer used was a 9 millimeter Glock-17 handgun and Celedon said the biggest safety measure to prevent an accidental discharge is training. "Our training...being able to utilize them properly and hold them in the proper positions. In incidents like this. That's absolutely something we're looking at through the course of this administrative investigation," said Celedon. The officer is named Aaron Sy, who has been on the force for 8 years and a former Kern County Sheriff's Deputy. He is still on active duty with BPD. Watson Property Management owns the abandoned property, and we spoke to them over the phone. After pressing them to answer questions about the property, they hung up.
