Jan 07, 2025
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A man charged with murder in a shooting in Oildale that allegedly occurred over a motorcycle will undergo a competency hearing, according to court records.
Luis Villachana, 45, will return to court Jan. 29 and a judge will weigh evidence -- including doctors' reports -- in determining whether he understands the charges against him and can assist his attorney in the preparation of a defense.
If Villachana is found competent, the case will proceed. If not, criminal proceedings will be suspended and he’ll be sent to a state hospital where efforts will be made to restore him to competency.

Held without bail, Villachana is charged with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder in a shooting that took place Aug. 29 outside a home on Olympic Drive. A woman, identified by family as Ruth Cummings, was killed.
Co-defendant Dallas Bradshaw, 29, faces burglary and conspiracy charges. It’s alleged she went to the home with Villachana. She's due back in court Jan. 15 for a preliminary hearing.
