HAGERSTOWN, Md. (DC News Now) -- Western Maryland is getting a grip on its first serious snowfall in a while.
It has been three years since Hagerstown has received a large amount of snowfall, so it is quite an adjustment for some.
Hagerstown residents enjoy snow day
Gary Suit made wholesale food deliveries from his big rig this week in conditions he has not experienced in a while.
"As long as people keep their side streets clear and customers get their walkways up to their back doors -- or wherever they want their deliveries -- we're good," Suit said. "I enjoy this weather."
Retiree Gary Lutz and his wife were headed out to do some shopping Tuesday. But the snow brings back childhood memories for Lutz.
"I was actually born and raised in Ann Arbor, Mich. so when I was a kid we had more than this every year," Lutz said. "They'd make ice rinks for us. We had all kinds of stuff. Skating in the winter and sledding, all kinds of stuff. That was back in the day, though."
Florence moved to Maryland from Africa. She said she experienced snow on travels through Europe.
"It's really good. I love the snow. It makes everything so beautiful. It makes everything nice," she said.
How long do I have to clear sidewalks of snow and ice?
Shalanda Kelly, a stay-at-home mom, is taking the winter wonderland in stride.
"Snow days are nice," Kelly said. "I spend time with the kids, play in the snow. But everybody needs to do their part, be safe, shovel the sidewalks."
