Ashburn man, aunt win $1M in Virginia Lottery

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) -- The Virginia Lottery said a man from Ashburn and his aunt, who lives in Emporia, Va., will split $1 million after they won Virginia's New Year's Millionaire Raffle.
Miran Smith gave Geraldine Smith the lottery ticket as a gift.
Smith bought five raffle tickets at Schmitz Sunoco, located at 42800 Creek View Plaza in Ashburn.
The winning numbers were announced on Jan. 1. Virginia Lottery said Smith called his aunt and asked her to check her ticket number, which was 074973. After she did, Smith said, “You’re a millionaire!” To which she responded, “For real?”

The winning ticket was one of five top prize-winning tickets in Virginia’s New Year’s Millionaire Raffle. Virginia Lottery said the other $4 million tickets were bought in Fishersville, Henrico, Herndon, and Moneta.
Seven tickets won $100,000 each. They were bought in Amelia, Charlottesville, Marshall, Midlothian, Tazewell, Woodstock, and Yorktown.
One thousand tickets each won $500.
