ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) - Baby, it's cold outside!
Can confirm, it is cold on Lake Ontario today… pic.twitter.com/2GwjSJFmkc— Eric Snitil (@EricSnitilWx) January 7, 2025
Technology only gets you so far. There's a huge gap in radar scans throughout the Finger Lakes. Our radar beams from Buffalo and Binghamton are a mile off the ground by the time they get through most of the FLX, and it's snowing at nearly every site I've circled on this map. pic.twitter.com/PvgRvhab98— James Gilbert (@JamesGilbertWX) January 7, 2025
Temperatures in the 20s early this evening will fade into the teens as blustery northwest winds drop our wind chill close to zero at times tonight. That onshore flow will support scattered lake effect snow showers, of which will be variable in nature. An inch or two of localized fluff will be possible under the more persistent bands, otherwise it's mainly just a cold night.
Temperatures will have a hard time climbing out of the teens tomorrow with the same logic of scattered lake flakes holding tight. Wind chills will spill below zero at times tomorrow night into Thursday morning.
8-Day Forecast
The lake effect machine will wind down Friday and Saturday, allowing for temperatures to bump a bit into the lower 30s. There still could be a few area-wide snow showers, but models are mixed on that solution at this point. It does look to turn cooler with more snow chances the following week.
