FAIRPORT, N.Y. (WROC) — Congratulations to Julie Farmen, our latest Golden Apple Award winner. Farmen teaches 7th Grade Social Studies at Johanna Perrin Middle School in Fairport. Student Emily Fantozzi was one of nine students who nominated her for a Golden Apple Award. "I just love her really.  She is just awesome.  She is so nice and supportive, and I've really learned a lot.  I hate social studies the subject, but she has made me really actually start to enjoy it."   Everyone we talked to had the same nice things to say about Mrs. Farmen. Student Abram DeCarolis adds, "She's always in a good mood, always wears the theme days, always walking around the room telling us what happens, answering our questions.  She's always adding a couple jokes in there.  Making it more real."   Principal Patrick Grow says, "She is one of the ones that kids love to have every year, and they get excited." The students were certainly excited when we arrived at her classroom to surprise her. Mrs. Farmen has been a teacher for about 20 years and has taught social studies in grades 7-12. But she really feels at home in the Middle School. Maybe because she has fond memories of being a student here too. "My husband and I met here in 6th grade," says Farmen. Principal Patrick Grow adds, "It's great to see that full circle come back and give back to the community in doing something she loves." Her love for the students and the job is easy to see. Farmen says, "I wanted a job that would make me really happy, and I would look forward to each day and I think I made a great choice."   She's made school something the students look forward to as well. Farmen says, "I have wonderful students, I love my job, and it makes me so happy.  You guys are the best!"
