ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A new brewery is looking to open in Rochester's Neighborhood of Play.
Spotted Octopus Brewing Company, based in Buffalo, teased in a December 13 post on Facebook that it's "making moves to Rochester."
On Tuesday, Rochester Downtown Development Corporation posted a similar image on Instagram, indicating Spotted Octopus would be opening doors to a new location in the Neighborhood of Play.
Both posts contain an image of the former Roc Brewing Co. space on S. Union. and indicate a projected opening date in the spring.
News 8 has reached out to Spotted Octopus and RDDC and hasn't heard back yet.
‘Something special:’ Roc Brewing Co. co-owner on hard decision to close
Roc Brewing Co. is closed in the fall of 2023. They first opened in 2011.
“In 2011, coming out of college, a friend and I, saw a really emerging market and industry, and we wanted to create something special and a special place for downtown for everyone,” said Chris Spinelli, co-owner of Roc Brewing.
Roc Brewing was one of the first “second wave” of craft breweries to come to Rochester, Spinelli says, and they won awards and hearts along the way:
Likely hundreds of thousands have enjoyed their beers through distribution, and the South Union location — as the co-owners wanted — became a go-to community place.
