BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- When her teen girlfriend took a nap instead of turning tricks at the notorious Desert Star Motel, Javonna Lewis dragged her into a room and brutally assaulted her over a period of three hours. On Tuesday, Lewis, 26, was sentenced to life in prison without parole after being found guilty of charges including human trafficking and pimping of a minor and torture. "This is one of the most heinous sex crimes this court has heard since being on the bench, and, frankly, even before that," Judge Judith K. Dulcich said. The abuse occurred in December 2020. The victim, then 17, escaped and was hospitalized. She was eventually reunited with her family in Fresno. Dulcich said it was "amazing" the teen didn't suffer more severe injuries. The Desert Star Motel closed after an investigation uncovered illegal activity including prostitution. On Jan. 22, 2021, authorities raided the business and arrested the owner and general manager. They encountered 15 prostitutes and three pimps during the raid.
