Fake letters from Madera County Sheriff's Office spark warning

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The Madera County Sheriff's Office says there is an imposter in the Madera Ranchos community after a letter with the sheriff's logo was found circulating in the ranchos.
The Madera County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) confirmed on social media that since Dec. 26 a fake letter with Sheriff Tyson Pogue's name on it has been circulating.
"Neither Sheriff Pogue or the Sheriff’s Office have issued any type of warning letters to residents, nor authorized any agents to act on our behalf in this matter," the MCSO said.
The letter included a strong warning and threats against shooting guns on New Year's Eve.
"This will stop now. I don't care if they are blanks. Other people don't know that," the letter read. "I will put a volunteer on Paula Rd. in his own vehicle, uniformed, and he will have a ticket book, with my permission to cite you $250,000. Celebrate peacefully inside your home. Have some respect!"
The MCSO says they never had any intention of citing anyone $250,000 and that they are currently working to find the culprit who sent the letters out to begin with.
If anyone has any information regarding this case, they are urged to contact the Madera County Sheriff's Office at 559-675-7770.
