Storm Track 3 Forecast: Bitter slowly becomes better, light snow late week
Jan 07, 2025
A system to our west is churning snow in eastern Colorado, impacting Denver to Colorado Springs and Pueblo. Some of this snow is trying to work east along the Kansas/Colorado state line and into the Oklahoma Panhandle.
Due to high pressure dominating most of our viewing area, this keeps the higher snowfall west of us. Any accumulations along the state line, will be in the low side from a trace to an inch - at most. This system slides southwest of us and any snow will taper this evening.
Clouds will try to flow farther east and be eliminated due to the drier air associated with the high pressure system. Overnight, it will be bitter again. Temps will fall below 0 degrees in higher snowpacked areas. Elsewhere, expect lows in the single digits and lower 10s with a clearing sky.
Temperatures try to warm a few more degrees on Wednesday. It will be a struggle to gain much heat over the thicker snowpack. Western Kansas will feel milder although temperatures all around the state will remain below average.
A power storm system will gear up Thursday into Friday. If your travel plans including flying into or out of the Dallas area, please take note. A Winter Storm Watch is eyeing this area long with Southeast Oklahoma into much of Arkansas and a sliver of Louisiana into western Tennessee and northern Mississippi. Ice followed by heavy snowfall will target this part of the country.
Kansas will be on the northern fringe. With an approaching cold front from the northwest, we will see flurries and light snow.
Accumulations will be minor with a slight advantage East of the Turnpike. Wichita may see some flurries starting late Thursday evening into early Friday morning. Temps fall a few degrees on Friday. It will not be a big drop.
This weekend, temps keep trying to warm. Snowpack will make it more difficult for temps to climb especially for harder hit areas from last weekend's blizzard. More cloud cover than sunshine is expected with a piece of energy marching through the region. This may spark a sprinkle or flurry since it is weakly organized.
