New York, N.Y. (WWLP) - Saturday is the last day of the season to see the 74-foot-tall Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center before the lights go dim and the holiday season in the city comes to a close. Cold weather may cause battery and tire issues The tree was found in West Stockbridge, Massachusetts this past year, and it traveled 140 miles to its destination where it dazzled crowds all winter long. The tree was adorned with 50,000 lights and a Swarovski star crown. However, its time is now being brought to an end. The tradition of retired Rockefeller Center Christmas trees since 2007 has been to mill them into lumber and donate them to Habitat for Humanity. This process will begin with this year's tree shortly after its final night ends at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday. While the Radio City Rockettes shut their curtains on January 5, you can still visit Rockefeller Center's ice skating rink while you take in the sight of the Christmas tree one last time.
