RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- B-Side Bakehouse recently opened up in Richmond's Museum District, and 8News was joined by the owner Tuesday morning with a chance to try several sweet and savory treats.
Good Morning Richmond anchors Autumn Childress and Delaney Hall were joined on Tuesday, Jan. 7, by Ben Safchuk, a self-taught baker and the owner of B-Side Bakehouse, as he talked about what inspired him to start this business.
"I challenge myself to do croissants, and that's where this started," Safchuk said. "Then it took about a year and a half. I went through a lot of really bad batches of course, that my friends and family and my co-workers were able to kind of stomach and then now we've got something that I'm very excited about and kind of proud to share with as many people as I can."
Safchuk supplied the studio with cinnamon rolls made out of croissant dough, chocolate chip cookies, ube cookies and cream cookies, traditional pain au chocolat and much more.
He also spoke to the meaning behind the slightly unique name, and how it references the B-side of a record, combining his love of music, his name and his newly found joy in baking.
If you're planning a visit, you can find B-Side Bakehouse at 707 N. Sheppard Street. For more information, check out their Instagram profile and website.
