HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A boil water advisory has been issued for parts of Hanover County "as a precautionary measure" after county officials said it was affected by a malfunction at Richmond's water reservoir system. At around noon on Tuesday, Jan. 7, a county spokesperson said it has disconnected its water supply from Richmond's system and is using internal pumps due to the ongoing water issues in the city. In a video uploaded to social media by the county at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7., county officials said residents and businesses east of Interstate 95 in Hanover County are under a boil water advisory. The county said this excludes the Doswell area. A county spokesperson said those west of I-95 should have water, even with lower pressure, and there is not a boil water advisory in place. "We anticipate that this could be an event that would last for a minimum of 24 hours. After the 24-hour period of time, there will be an advisory to boil water at that time that would last for at least an additional 48 hours," said a county official. A county spokesperson said that this comes as a precautionary measure, adding that there's no contamination in the water. "Please know that our water is not contaminated, the issues have been related to low water pressures. So there is no contaminated water in Hanover County's system, nor was there yesterday," the spokesperson said. The county confirmed there is no estimated time yet on when services will be restored, but the county will announce updates as soon as they become available. The following water distributions will be open until 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the county, providing one case of water per household: At the football field parking lot behind Atlee High School, located at 9414 Atlee Station Road Cold Harbor Elementary School's parking lot, located at 6740 Cold Harbor Road If water services continue to be affected, the spokesperson said additional water distribution will be announced.
