PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — The Department of Justice said a Pawtucket man was sentenced to three years in federal prison after he was found in possession of thousands of child sexual abuse material. Eugenio Lopes Gomes, 47, was sentenced to 36 months in prison with three years of federal supervised release on Tuesday. In August 2023, law enforcement were notified that a telephone umber, later linked to Lopes Gomes, was being used to upload child pornography, according to court documents. After a search and forensic audit of Gomes’ electronics, about 17,000 images and 144 videos of explicit material of children was found on the devices. According to the DOJ, the images were of children ranging from one to twelve years old. On Sept. 24 2024, Lopes Gomes pled guilty to a charge of possession of child pornography.
