'The highlight of my career': Massachusetts US Attorney Joshua Levy steps down
Jan 07, 2025
BOSTON (WPRI) — U.S. Attorney Joshua Levy announced Tuesday that he will resign from his role as the top federal prosecutor for the District of Massachusetts.
Levy said his resignation will take effect on Friday, Jan. 17, marking the end of his second tenure with the Department of Justice.
Levy became acting U.S. Attorney in May 2023 and was twice nominated by President Joe Biden for the permanent role before being officially appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in November 2024.
"Serving as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts has truly been the highlight of my career,” Levy said.
During his leadership, the office secured more than $1 billion in False Claims Act recoveries in 2024 alone, according to the Department of Justice. Other notable cases under Levy’s tenure included the sentencing of Jack Teixeira to 15 years in prison for leaking classified documents and the conviction of seven former eBay employees for cyberstalking a Massachusetts couple.
"We have brought some incredibly important cases these last three years that have improved the lives of the people of Massachusetts," Levy said. "As I reflect on my tenure, I am equally proud of the thoughtful, deliberative process engaged in by our team whenever making the grave decision about whether to bring federal charges to ensure it is consistent with the principles of federal prosecution."
Prior to his appointment, Levy worked at Ropes & Gray, was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers in recognition of his courtroom advocacy, and served as the First Assistant U.S. Attorney.
Following his departure, First Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary B. Murrane will assume the role of acting U.S. Attorney.
