CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — People may once again be able to take a dip in Cranston's Budlong Pool this summer. Anthony Moretti, the chief of staff for Mayor Ken Hopkins, told 12 News the city previously aimed to have to pool open by July 1. Moretti said the date is being revisited due to an "unexpected delay" from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for approving funds. The money is from a congressional grant that will go toward the pool's construction. BACKGROUND: Cranston mayor moves forward with plan for new, smaller Budlong Pool Despite the delay, the project has already gotten underway, according to Moretti. He said the old pool has been drained, and heavy demolition and further construction is expected to get started in the coming days. Moretti said the city has not yet determined how much it will charge people to visit the pool. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Daily Roundup SIGN UP NOW
