This morning some areas woke up to another Winter wonderland. Snow At William And Mary This Morning While we didn't get the big snow here we did get grazed by a big storm. There was about a foot of snow or higher from Kansas City to east of D.C. Estimated Snow Cover Locally we had a few inches to the north, but there wasn't much in Hampton Roads itself. Estimated Snow Cover The numbers were probably a little higher up north, but these probably estimated how much was on the ground after melting and getting tamped down. Depending on where folks were this morning there was a combination of snow, ice, and black ice. We did have a lot of rain during the day yesterday. That caused a lot melting. Then we had that cold front and upper level disturbance yesterday evening. So we did get that batch of a wintry mix and snow as predicted. Wintry Mix And Snow Last Night As the system pushed offshore last night the winds revved up out of the northwest. Then temps quickly fell. This morning we had temperatures in the 20s, but wind chills were in the teens. The big area of low pressure is now offshore. Regional Weather Map We'll be dry, cold, and windy today as high pressure builds in from the west. Winds were already gusting above 30mph near the shore this morning. Wind Gusts This Morning Winds will gust to around 30mph until the midday hours. There will be a few higher gusts near the shore. Wind Gusts Forecast High temps will only be in the upper 30s. Wind chills will be in the 20s this afternoon. Temps VS Wind Chills Tonight we'll have clear skies and lighter winds. Temps will be able to fall down to the low-mid 20s with teens inland. Be sure to slow-drip the faucets overnight. Make sure the pets stay warm as well. Bring them inside if they are outside. Then tomorrow we'll be dry and cold again. High temps will be in the upper 30s to near 40. Forecast Temps Tomorrow We'll stay cold and dry Thursday and for most of the day Friday. By Friday evening the next system will be approaching from the west. We'll probably have more moisture coming up from the south again ahead of that system. GFS Model Friday Night We may have a wintry mix between Friday night into Saturday morning for a time. It could also be some snow for a bit. However, it is forecast to change over to rain during the day Saturday. GFS Model Saturday There's still a lot of time to get updates on this one. I'll have more updates on that in tomorrow's weather blog. In world news...There was some really bad flooding recently in the Mecca area of Saudi Arabia. Torrential downpours turned streets into rivers. Some of the video from there is pretty shocking. Here is the link: Flooding in Mecca. Meteorologist: Jeremy Wheeler
