NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Temperatures will stay cool through Thursday and we will see widespread freezing temperatures both Wednesday and Thursday morning. However the super cold air stays mostly to our north during that time. With less wind Tuesday night we will likely see the coldest night of the week. Areas north of I-12 will have a chance to get down to 27. Those numbers could be enough to cause damage to pipes and faucets, so it's a good idea to cover those just to be safe. The best chance of this happening the next couple of night will be in the areas in pink in the graphic above. Most of the area will avoid damaging temperatures this time around but will see a longer duration in the upper 20s than previous cold shots. This could cause additional plant damage. South shore will once again see lows of 30-34. The real caveat with temperatures tonight, especially on the south shore, will be an area of high level clouds currently overhead. This could add a blanket effect and end up keeping temperatures from dropping quite as cold. Wednesday we get back into the 50s for highs with one more cold night into Thursday morning. Look for upper 20s again to the north with low to mid 30s south. The next storm system will spread rain over the area starting Thursday night through the first half of the day Friday. Some locally heavy rain will move through early Friday followed by another cool day on Saturday.
