ALGIERS, La. (WGNO) — Carnival season has begun in New Orleans and city officials recently announced the line-up for the upcoming Mardi Gras Festival. The fifth annual Algiers Mardi Gras Parade and Festival will happen on Saturday, Feb. 1 at New Orleans Federal City. At a news conference held Monday, Jan. 6, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell and other city leaders and dignitaries, Algiers community leader and former Chief Financial Officer of the Orleans Parish School Board James “Jim” Henderson, Jr. will serve as the 2025 parade Grand Marshal. Phunny Phorty Phellows take Twelfth Night streetcar ride in New Orleans The entertainment lineup will consist of headliners Brass-A-Holics and Louisiana Music Hall of Famer Amanda Shaw with added performances by The U.S. Marine Reserve Jazz Band, Edna Karr High School Voices of Pride, Monkey Hill, Jakarta Band, Big Frank/Little Frank, DJ Polo 504, and BJ So Cole. Officials report the parade route has been expanded to include additional Algiers neighborhoods. The parade will start at 9 a.m. at the corner of Teche Street and Newton Street, parade down Newton Street onto General Meyer Avenue ending at the Algiers Mardi Gras Festival. The "daytime soiree" starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m. Marching this year are bands from Alice Harte, Martin Behrman, NOMMA, Edna Karr, and L.B. Landry along with the Mohawk Hunters Mardi Gras Indians. "The family-friendly festival aims to bring Mardi Gras to the historic Algiers neighborhood just across the mighty Mississippi River from downtown New Orleans," said city officials.
